The start of Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 6A, Region 1 play provided quite a dramatic finish for Columbus.
Down by seven twice in the fourth quarter, Columbus rallied for a 34-28 overtime victory against DeSoto Central at Falcon Field.
Coupled with a win over Vicksburg in its home opener, the Falcons now carry a two-game winning streak into Friday's huge region showdown at Tupelo.
It should be an exciting week with that contest headlining the schedule.
Here are some winners for Week 7:
Columbus (1-3) at Tupelo (5-0)
To say the Falcons may have their hands full Friday night, might be an understatement.
Tupelo is considered one of the top couple of teams in Class 6A. The Golden Wave came on late last season and that has carried over to a strong start to this season. Tupelo has not had a game decided by less than two touchdowns this season.
Columbus has a new level of confidence. After one-sided defeats to West Point, Noxubee County and Starkville, the Falcons finally felt good again after routing Vicksburg at home. The good vibes carried over to the dramatic win against DeSoto Central.
When these teams last met in Tupelo, Columbus took a 33-9 victory. Tupelo probably remembers that.

New Hope (4-2) at Louisville (5-1)
New Hope begins its quest for a MHSAA Class 4A, Region 4 title with a road contest at Hinze Stadium.
New Hope is feeling good after winning back-to-back games to close out its non-region schedule. The Trojans have had to shuffle the lineup throughout the season due to injury but still have hung tough to win four of six games. The defense keeps improving. That's a good thing.
Louisville closed out its non-region play with four straight victories. The Wildcats impressed with a 34-18 win over Greenwood at home last Friday night. Louisville has also overcome some key injuries to continue to plug along.
This should be a great start to a very exciting race inside this region.
New Hope 34, Louisville 28
Northwest Rankin (4-1) at Starkville (5-1)
A season ago, Northwest Rankin sent shockwaves through MHSAA Class 6A, Region 2 when it pulled off a 28-7 upset win over Starkville. The Yellow Jackets saw a string of five straight region titles halted last year.
Northwest Rankin will again bring a solid team to Oktibbeha County. The Cougars have knocked off Germantown, Ridgeland, Brandon and Warren Central.
Starkville is riding high after an impressive 42-0 win at Provine. The Yellow Jackets clicked on all cylinders in their region opener. Starkville is getting healthy and finding balance at just the right time.
Northwest Rankin will play hard. Playing at home, Starkville has too many weapons.
Starkville 31, Northwest Rankin 21
Center Hill (0-5) at West Point (5-0)
West Point will face its second straight winless team in MHSAA Class 1A, Region 5 play. The good news is the ride home this time will be short.
Center Hill battled Corinth to a two-touchdown defeat. Other than that, no other game has been that close. The Mustangs may not feel any better about things after Friday night.
West Point rolled over Lafayette in its region opener. The Green Wave is running and throwing the ball with authority. The defense has been salty throughout the year.
West Point continues its romp through region play.
