Vernon, Ala. — Gaybe Allen, 72, died Feb. 8, 2019, at her residence. Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Otts Funeral Home Chapel with Carlos Dean and Glen Boman officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship South Cemetery. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Otts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Allen was born Jan. 3, 1947, in Reform, Alabama, to the late Buster Vails and Fannie Mae Woods. She was a graduate of Pickens County High School and was formerly employed as an EMT with Vernon Rescue Squad. She was a member of Friendship South Baptist Church and attended Freewill Baptist Church in Vernon and Shiloh Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Truman Vails and Carl Ray Vails. She is survived by her husband, James Allen of Vernon; sons, Richard Allen and Robert Allen, both of Vernon; daughter, Patricia Lytle of Vernon; brother, Derwin Vails of Vernon; sisters, Sandra Cantrell of Birmingham and Rachel Ponds of Ethelsville; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Allen, Jarod Allen, Wayne O’Mary, Kevin O’Mary, Jimmy O’Mary and Mark O’Mary.
