COLUMBUS — Florence Burr, 69, died June 28, 2018, at her residence. Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday at Seventh Street Church of Christ. Burial followed at Memorial Gardens. Visitation was from noon-7 p.m. Friday at Lee-Sykes Funeral Home. Lee-Sykes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Burr was born May 19, 1949, in Columbus, to Hazel Frances Walls Williams and the late Charles Williams. She was a 1967 graduate of R. E. Hunt High School and attended Mississippi University for Women. She was formerly employed as a switchboard operator with Lowndes General Hospital and as Director of Admissions with Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle until retirement. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her son, Willie Hood, Jr.; and brothers, Curtis Williams, Wayne Lloyd Williams and Stephen Williams. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Author W. Burr of Steens; son, John Lewis of Austin, Texas; stepchildren, Diane Brewer and Rosie Sanders, both of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Reno Burr and Janet Williams, both of Columbus and Mark Burr of Birmingham, Alabama; siblings, Gregory Williams of Houston, Texas, Charles Williams and Sherman “Doug” Williams, both of Chicago, Illinois, Frances Russell of Columbus, Ervin Williams of Atlanta, Georgia, Erma Stephens of Crestview, Florida, Montgomery Williams of Jackson and Hazel Stephens of Smyrna, Georgia; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
