Starkville police arrested a man on Saturday who reportedly hit a pedestrian and fled from officers.

Javontae Harris, 23, of Starkville, is facing charges of domestic violence aggravated assault and felony failure to stop a motor vehicle when an officer signals.

Officers responded to a reported hit and run involving a female pedestrian at the Waffle House in west Starkville on Saturday, according to a department press release. They made contact with Harris' vehicle on Highway 12 and attempted to stop it.

Harris continued north onto Louisville Street until his vehicle left the road near the train tracks at the intersection with Gillespie Street.

He fled the vehicle on foot and was caught a short time later.

Harris was booked into the Oktibbeha County Jail, where he is being held on $18,425 bond.

The victim's current condition is unknown, but SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady said she was taken to OCH Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
