A Mississippi State wide receiver is suspended indefinitely after his arrest Tuesday for simple assault.

Head football coach Joe Moorhead confirmed the discipline in a brief statement Wednesday afternoon, which closely followed a press release Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Office issued with details of the incident that led to Todd's arrest.

"We are aware of the incident involving Reggie Todd," Moorhead said. "Reggie has been suspended indefinitely from all team activities. We will have no future comment on this matter at this time."

Todd, 21, turned himself in to the sheriff's office Tuesday and was charged with simple assault, Lt. Brett Watson said in the press release. Authorities had issued warrants for Todd's arrest after he allegedly got into a fight with another male early Sunday at what investigators believe was a party on the 400 block of Hospital Road in Starkville.

Deputies responded to the scene at 1:34 a.m. and the other person involved in the fight was later treated at OCH Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.

Todd was booked in the Oktibbeha County Jail and is out on $1,000 bond, according to Watson. He said the other male is not facing any charges.

Watson further noted that the investigation is ongoing and, while further charges are possible, he doesn't currently expect any.

Todd's initial appearance in Oktibbeha County Justice Court is scheduled for July 10.

Todd, a Mobile, Alabama, native, will be a redshirt sophomore this season. He caught 14 passes for 160 yards and a touchdown last season, the score coming against Arkansas. He is part of a crowded wide receiver corps this season, with two new players at the position already on campus and three of last year's top five receivers returning.
