Pilot Club of Starkville hopes the community will turn out to make waves from 5-8 p.m. Thursday when the club hosts a celebrity wait night and silent auction at Starkville's Sweet Peppers Deli. Funds raised will be used to enhance the J.L. King Memorial Park splash pad.
Celebrity waiters during the 5-6:30 p.m. shift April 19 include former Mississippi State quarterback Tyson Lee, Starkville Academy's Coach Chase Nicholson, former MSU Vice President Roy Ruby, Starkville High School Principal Sean McDonnell and First Baptist Church youth leader Neil Tullos.
Servers during the 6:30-8 p.m. shift are Starkville Mayor Lynn Spruill, Eddie Myles, WCBI anchor Aundrea Self, G. Brandon Lovelady of the Starkville Police Department, MSU Volleyball Coach Julie Darty and Starkville Academy's Coach Nicholson.
All tips, donations and silent auction proceeds will benefit the splash pad project at the park.
"A water bucket will be installed (at the splash pad) that will fill up with water and then dump out on those standing below it," said Pilot Club President Ellen Boles. "This will provide added fun for the children playing on the splash pad as well as providing brain stimulation."
In the past year, the club has already installed three playground-version drums and a set of chimes near the splash pad.
Bids for silent auction items including autographed MSU sports memorabilia, a Jeffrey Rupp acoustic gig and restaurant packages will be accepted until 8 p.m.
Boles said, "Pilot Club members are excited about the J.L. King Park project, and we really hope the community will turn out to support our improvements there. We're pleased with all the positive comments we continue to receive from our previous major project, the Music Trail at McKee Park."
Sponsors of the celebrity wait night and silent auction are Sweet Peppers Deli and Clark Beverage Group.
Starkville's Sweet Peppers Deli is located at 904 Highway 12 W.
